Destroy Our Future: How a Rising Streetwear Brand is Finding Their Place in the Industry By Julie Bozzay

The fashion industry is constantly changing and evolving. Finding one's voice in such a busy space is never easy. A rising streetwear brand, Destroy Our Future, is putting in the work to be heard.

The founders Hector Rivera and Jefferson Andrade started collaborating 6 years ago to create a clothing line that they felt reflected their vision. 2 years ago they scrapped what they had and restarted; out of that decision came Destroy Our Future. They began their journey in high school with no prior experience in fashion or any connections in the industry. They have spent the last 8 years learning and developing the skills necessary to succeed. Two people however, isn’t enough to take on a whole brand. The team has grown over the years, with two major additions: Malachi Roth-Cohen and Felix Hernandez. This group of four now stand as the representatives of Destroy Our Future.

Rivera and Andrade wanted to create a brand that reflected the Hispanic-American experience, “I wanted to go back to my roots and create a brand out of, not only a particular experience, but out of my identity” said Rivera. In a sea of rising creators, DOF is figuring out how to catch the eyes of the public. With the fast paced, revolving door that is fashion, keeping up is a challenge. With brands like Prada and Supreme as major competitors, DOF is attempting to find their spot on the very same podium. “We have to position ourselves so that you can’t ignore us.” says Hector, “Infiltrate people’s attention, infiltrate spaces”. Through shows and social media the group is gaining traction.

Being based in Boston, DOF is at the center of a creative cultural hub, but rather than seeing other upcoming brands as a threat, they aim to collaborate. These collaborations extend far past fashion, they bleed into

music and art as well. “We’re a clothing line, but also a lifestyle,” says Jefferson. Maintaining the brand's message is of the utmost importance, reflecting the Latin and Caribbean experience is, and always will be, DOF’s priority. Community, creation, and collaboration are the heart of the brand and if you’ve seen them, it is impossible to deny it.

Still, as a newer creation, DOF is still finding, or rather, creating their audience. “We want to build our audience, not just tap into a target audience or find one, but build one that’s based upon our ideas, our sound, and our love for Latin-Carribean streetwear and that lifestyle” says Roth-Cohen. As they find a community of their own in the rising talent of Boston and beyond, success is sure to come. The Destroy Our Future crew will not be fading away any time soon. “We want to be here doing this for a long time” says Andrade.
