The Beauty of Inconsistency in Fashion By Clare Snyder

I used to think I needed a set aesthetic to be considered fashionable. I thought that being in tune with fashion meant that every outfit I wore in a day had to feel perfectly curated, perfectly chic, and something that appealed to the image I wanted to present. I felt a certain pressure every morning to look my best and to dress in a way that accurately reflected the “fairy princess aesthetic” I was drawn to.
I think a lot of people feel this pressure. When we find a style we admire, we want to recreate it consistently.
But the deeper I dove into what fashion means to me, I realized that being fashionable does not mean committing to maintaining one aesthetic. It is about dressing in a way that reflects how I feel on a given day, and instead of constricting myself to one aesthetic, allowing fashion to become a window into my multifaceted identity.
Inconsistency in fashion is a beautiful thing. It may mean dressing completely differently each day, or simply shifting small details in how you present yourself, but either way, it says something distinct about who you are.
To me, that is the whole point of fashion. It is an external expression of your personality, which will never be one-dimensional. Restricting yourself to a single aesthetic almost feels contradictory. Instead, approach each day with honesty and openness, allowing your outfit to reflect your individuality in that moment.
Recently, I have been rejecting the idea of consistency in fashion. How I dress changes every day, and I embrace this, as I see it as the most honest representation of my identity. These are some of my outfits that embody that.
At the end of the day, there is not one version of me, and I get to choose how I let my personal style encapsulate that.
