Community Spotlight: Meet recording artist Walter from Olympia, Washington.

Today, we're happy to share with you our conversation with recording artist Walter from Olympia, Washington.
We wanted to get to know a little bit more about who he is, how he got into the music industry, and where he's going on his creative journey. Here's how it went:

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Walter! We're excited to have you as our next feature and learn more about you as a musician. Let's start this off with you sharing exactly what it was that initially drew you to your craft, and how has your journey unfolded since then?
Walter: Initially, I was drawn to make music when I was a young kid around the age of 14. I was always a huge fan of hip-hop/rap and idolized artists like Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, and Wiz Khalifa. Around the time when the rap group “Odd Future” blew up my friends and I started creating our own raps heavily inspired by them. Eventually, my brother Justin invested in a home studio set up and we started actually recording and putting out music. And it all unfolded from there!

Can you share some insights into your creative process? Where do you find inspiration, and how do you translate that into your work?
WalterI have multiple ways I like to create music. I love to freestyle/punch in and create songs like that, similar to how the artist Juice WRLD created his songs. But I also have a great time writing songs and fully structuring them before I record it. With both of these processes it allows me to make music pretty fast without overthinking it. I just go with what inspiration comes to me!

What projects are you currently working on, and what excites you the most about them?
WalterI have an unreleased song with an amazing artist that goes by the name of Xperience. He featured on the platinum album “Gemini” by Macklemore. As well as other Macklemore projects alongside superstars like Ke$ha, Ed Sheeran, Offset & more! Xperience and I also have a record already released called “preach” produced by HELLOZACH!

Looking back on your career so far, what would you consider to be your proudest achievement or most memorable moment?
WalterI have a couple of moments that really stand out to me! Recently the record “Encircled ii” with my brother “YCK” hit the iTunes top 200 hip-hop chart in Canada, we hit #72! Another moment the stands out is being featured on the viral song “INDUSTRY PLANT LOUNGE.” This song is a cypher featuring a bunch of buzzing and upcoming underground rappers. We got the song posted on some huge outlets including the TRASH YouTube channel with 5M subs and the SCROLL YouTube channel with 1M subs. That song blew up and has now pulled in over 2.4M total plays. The last moment that stands out to me is going on tour with the legends Mistah Fab, Keak Da Sneak & D-Lo. My brother Caddy played the whole tour & brought me along for the PNW section of the tour. These legends have HUGE records alongside superstars like Tyga, Snoop Dogg, G-Eazy, Mac Dre & many others! Some of these songs like “Tell Me When to Go” by E40 & Keak Da Sneak I’ve been listening to since a child, so it was a trip to be on stage with them as they performed it for some packed out venues.

How do you navigate challenges and setbacks in your field, and what advice would you give to aspiring creatives facing similar obstacles?
WalterThe best way to face a setback is to brush it off and keep moving. The music industry is a very difficult business, and setbacks are inevitable. If you really want to take the music to the next level, you have to be able to take the failure on the chin and keep up the hard work.

In an industry constantly evolving, how do you stay innovative and relevant while maintaining your unique voice/style?
WalterI like to stay up to date on all the buzzing and upcoming artists. Just to see what is popular right now, and I will try and work some of those elements into my own craft while still staying true to myself and what I want to create.

Can you talk about any collaborations or partnerships that have been particularly meaningful or impactful for you?
WalterMany of my collaborations mean the world to me. Some that stand out are the songs I’ve made with huge artists like: Bizarre from D12, Mark Battles, SwizZz from Funk Volume, Kirblagoop, Trippythakid & others!

What do you hope audiences or consumers take away from your work, and what impact do you aspire to make in your industry?
WalterI honestly just want to make people happy. If every song I make can at least make one person have a good day, then that is enough for me.

Lastly, what message or piece of wisdom would you like to share with your fans, or anyone inspired by your journey?
WalterNever give up. Anything is possible I know it sounds cliche but it’s the absolute truth. If you have a dream pursue it with all your heart and please don’t give up. You've got this!
